What kind of food does your bird like to eat?
Tuesday, September 15th, 2009I’m trying to find healthy stuff to cook for my lovebird to eat. I think he would enjoy more variety in his diet, and he is always wanting to taste the food that I am eating. Anybody have any ideas? I’ve heard of hard boiled eggs, and cooked chicken. nothing with seasonings though. That’s all I really know of. He likes to eat plain blueberry muffins. is that bad for him?

Blueberry Soil?
Friday, September 11th, 2009I am losing the battle with the acidity in my soil. I am in southern ontario and Zone 5A. We took over this house last summer and my 6 blueberry bushes had an amazing amount of berries in August (SO many berries)!!! Now, I didnt add any alum sulphate to the soil and this year…ugh!! What a disaster….barely any berries and what was there was so small. So I bought a “pronged device” to measure my soils acidity and alkilinity……..I am WAY in the alkiline stages - Ive been adding alum sulphate to the soil but the box says wait 2-3 months before a “true” test results will indicate if the soil has changed. When is the best time to add the alum sulphate? and can I do this through the fall months? is there a better time to do it? spring maybe? The bushes (actually 5feet tall) are turning brown and look like they are dying quickly!!

Monday, September 7th, 2009I am interested in dividing up my backyard a little bit. To make it more like garden rooms. What kinds of plants make nice informal borders or boundaries? Currently I use boxwoods, blueberry bushes and grapes…
Many Thanks for your input. I can grow a wide range of plants in my zone.

A nice home made Glaze or something for the top of my blue berry cake?
Friday, August 21st, 2009Is it safe to put this aluminum pie tin in the oven?
Wednesday, August 19th, 2009All right, so I am making a pie for the first time, blueberry to be precise. I bought the crust, but I am making the crust that goes around the pie myself and the strips for the top. Now, I need to put it in the oven, but I’m not sure if it’s okay to do so. Is it safe to put this pie in the oven?

How can I keep my plants watered on vacation?
Monday, August 17th, 2009I recently planted some blueberry/raspberry bushes, and we’re going on a 2 week-long vacation soon. I’m concerned with the plants dying (it’ll be very hot and dry when we’re gone) from lack of water. Since the sprinklers don’t reach to where the bushes are, is there anything I can do to set up some sort of automatic watering system?
