Why discourage trade in endangered species?

Here in NZ we’ve got several species of flightless bird which are endangered in the wild, like kiwis, takahe and kakapo. I’d have thought that the more breeding pairs there were in different locations throughout the world, the better their chances of survival. The high prices they command guarantee that they’ll be well looked after. Why don’t we encourage an export trade in them?

Opening Kiwi Shoe Polish?

Maybe I’m just not as strong as I think I am, but I cannot get this little can open. I’ve tried opening it with the little metal leverage thing, I’ve tried twisting it, I’ve tried prying it. I can’t get this thing open!

Can you help me figure out how many calories I had in my lunch today?

Here’s what I had:
A turkey croissant sandwich. It came with mayo on it, but I tried to scrape most of it off. It also had brussel spouts.

About 1 cup of mixed fruit on the side (kiwi,orange,grapes,peaches,strawberries)

Why is driving so dangerous in Australia and New Zealand?

According to statistics, Australia has ten times as many mortalities through car accidents per capita as the UK, and New Zealand even 20 times.

Why is that?

I did notice that the kiwis drive with reckless abandon (and I abandoned driving now because of it, gives me the willies) on roads that are sign-posted totally inappropriately at speeds we Europeans would have put at maybe half; do Australians drive like that, too? I’ve never been to Australia.
