Does anyone have a home-made recipe for buttercream icing?

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Hey all,

I have a question regarding butter cream icing on top of a cake. I’ll be preparing a white cake with a white chocolate and raspberry filling; I will also be using fondant on top and the cake will be tiered.

So, my question is…do you have a recipe for buttercream icing? Something not too sweet because I don’t want the fondant and the filling AND the icing to be overly-sweet.

Your help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Should I leave this food out to attract the rabbits and deer?

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

I have a lot of veggies left over from a party, and I was wondering if I should leave some for the rabbits and deer. There are small carrots (that are oddly sweet), red pepper slices, cucumber slices, and raw broccoli. Should I leave them out for the rabbits and deer? We recently had extremely warm weather (60 degrees outside right now and the 4 feet of snow we had a few days ago is gone now). Our raspberry and current berry bushes. The birds right now are chirping like crazy. So should I leave the food out for the rabbits and deer or is it a bad idea? Will it take them several days to find it or no?

Does anyone have a good recipe for salad with grilled salmon?

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

I had a really good salad at a restaurant that had citrus grilled salmon, raspberry vinaigrette, nuts, dried cranberries, etc. I’d like a good recipe that’s similar.

Thanks!!

Where can I find Bottled New York Seltzer in Spokane, WA?

Friday, September 18th, 2009

I know where to find raspberry ny seltzer from a fountain (senior froggies, ZipTrip on 3rd and altamont) but I want bottles with other flavors. Any ideas?
I know about talking rain -I don’t like it. New York Seltzer is still in business, and answers like, “I don’t know” help no one. Why bother?

Thank you!

The children are going to participate in a pretend crucifixion during my Sunday School lesson?

Friday, September 11th, 2009

Hi y’all, I am a Sunday School teacher for a bunch of adorable children between the ages of 5-8 at the Faith Interstate Southern Baptist Church.

This Sunday, we’re are going to have a lesson about our Savior’s crucifixion, and I’ve always been big on lesson activities, so I thought we would have the children participate in a pretend crucifixion.

Today, I went to Home Depot and bought a few 2×4 planks for the cross. During the lesson, one of the children will be chosen to be crucified and will be attached to the cross with rubber bands or duct tape (I haven’t decided yet), and the rest of the children will be the mocking crowds.

I thought this would be a great way for the children to get a perspective on our Savior’s crucifixion. Does anybody else have any additional ideas?

Last week we had an activity lesson on the Garden of Gethsemene but the red raspberry jam just made a big mess. Any non-messy suggestions?

What is a substitute for framboise eau de vie?

Saturday, September 5th, 2009

I need to dissolve framboise eau de vie in gelatin, but I looked in a few places and it is no where to be found. It is a French raspberry brandy. I know there is a German substitute, which is even rarer, but is there ANYTHING else? Any answers will be deeply appreciated.

How do I keep the bottom crust of my fruit pies from getting soggy?

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

When I make fruit pies (blueberry, raspberry, blackberry, etc.), the bottom crust ends up being a little “soggy”.

The top crust is perfect and flaky. But, the bottom crust isn’t the same, it’s a little doughy and pasty. It’s not horrible, but I would like it to be more like the top crust, more crispy and flaky.

Is there any way to keep the bottom crust of a fruit pie from getting soggy? Any way to end up with a flaky and crispy bottom crust on a fruit pie?

Thanks in advance for answers!
